In 1908, a group of high ranking Turkish army officers, called “Homeland and Freedom fighters” made a daring coup and toppled the last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire ”Sultan Abdelhameed”...their seven years of harsh rule, privy interests and clandestine fellowships, through their corrupt fellow officials stationed through out the middle-east, intimidated their Arab constituency, imposing inhumane laws, confiscation of cattle, lands and homes, created chaotic lawless society....The demise of Constantinople however, came on the hands of the supreme bedouin knight of Alhwetat tribe....Oblivious to his destiny, that will change the course of history, for ever...this is the true story of “Salamah Ben Irtemah”. FADE IN FROM BLACK. EXT. DESERT - DAY Superimpose: The Negev Desert, Palestine. Apr. 29, 1915. As sad Bedouin Rebab MUSIC(Ajoh Joh Atheeb) travels through this forsaken magnificent golden desert sand, with the high noon sun blazing. Suddenly, through the thick mirage at the horizon, a speeding unidentified shadow approaches, appears to be, as a gathering sandstorm. CUT TO. EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - MOMENTS LATER As the Rebab MUSIC continues. In an unpaved little track, surrounded by a few old mud houses, a bunch of Bedouin lads are playing soccer with a cloth made ball, surrounded by a bunch of little boys and girls cheering for Ghazi. AD LIB. GHAZI: A little lad with a white hat, and a brown traditional dress for boys, commands the ball. A little girl, wearing traditional black dress, with golden designs around the chest area. Cheering for Ghazi. NOAFF Go, Ghazi, go...Watch out Ghazi, go, go, go... Ghazi: Looks at Noaff, smiles as he passes a few opponentes to score. Noaff: Along with the crowd, jumps in cheers. AD LIB. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER Bedouin: Lonely old man, seated on a cape to protect him from the burning sand, wearing thick black goat skin coat, over his shoulders, with wool linen to protect him from the blazing sun, playing his Rebab, the sheepherder continues SINGING (Ajoh joh Etheeb). PAN TO EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER The shadow, moving toward us (The screen) appears to be a speeding Turkish military jeep, of that era, with three men on board. Passes a cluster of vultures eating a decomposed prey, not too far from the singing old man. CUT TO: EXT/INT. JEEP - MOMENTS LATER OSMAN: Baby-face, Turkish military Lieutenant, in his mid-twenties, seated behind a Corporal, driving the convertible. Next to. A bedouin man, in his early sixties, with a black dyed, pointed goatee, wearing a Bedouin attire. Shoveling his nervous fingers, through a chain of beads(Mesbaha). AWAD Vultures. Rubbing his left thumb, over a polished head of a stick, with a brass smooth surface. Without looking, and with arrogant gesture. OSMAN What? AWAD The hunting season has begun. CUT OUT EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - LATER Ghazi: Caught up in the soccer game, unaware of the approaching vehicle, jumps in front of the approaching vehicle, bends to pickup the out of bound ball. The jeep driving through the neighborhood. FAST PAN EXT. NEGHBORHOOD - MOMENTS LATER NOAF (Screams) Ghazi. CUT TO: EXT. NEGHBORHOOD - MOMENTS LATER The military jeep comes to a breakneck stop, along with the MUSIC. CUT TO: EXT. NEGHBORHOOD - MOMENTS LATER Freezes. Stares at Osman as he stands up, holding the ball. And in slow motion, Drops it. Runs away toward a distinguished, old mud fenced house, with an old Islamic arch gate. Shouting. GHAZI Yoba, yoba, aljayeesh alturkey, aljaeesh alturkey, yoba. (Father, Father, the Turkish army, the Turkish army, Father) The convertible slowly trails him. FADE OUT. INT. LIVING ROOM - LATER Late fifties, dark man, with gray goatee, wearing Bedouin attire, leaning on a stack of pillows. Hosting the grim faced pair. IRTEMAH Welcome...Sheik Awad of Beersheba, and his guests, welcome... (To Ghazi) Yoba, Ghazi, serve the coffee. Ghazi: Walks to the middle of the room, picks up a stained black bottom brass pot of coffee from the grill, and three small coffee cups, and starts serving the guests. Osman: Sitting on a stack of pillows. Waves the stick, in an arrogant gesture, rejecting the coffee. Takes the coffee, places it down. As customary, he flips the chain of beads between his fingers. AWAD Your coffee is not hospitable, Sheik Irtemeh. IRTEMAH (Agitated) Sit down son... Ghazi: Returns the coffee pot to the grill, retires in his father’s lap. IRTEMAH (CONT’D) Speak your mind, man. AWAD The dispute, Sheik Irtemah, I’m here... Looks at Osman. AWAD (CONT’D) We’re here to settle the dispute. IRTEMAH What dispute, Sheik Awad? AWAD You know what I’m talking about, Sheik Irtemah. IRTEMAH The stores?! AWAD Yes...the stores, the land...your land, Sheik Irtemah... IRTEMAH Let’s discuss that, next season, Awad...the spring cleared the skies for us to rove east...upon the boys arrival. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER The arrow, passes through a gazelle’s body, a bit far from Salamah, and slams into a tree, behind it. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER A heavy set, dark skinned brother of Salamah, his pearly teeth shines as he laughs. KASEB (CAMEL) Missed Salamah. You’ve missed. Salamah: Gives him a stern look, that silence him instantly. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER The oldest brother, with a scar on his left cheek, lying against a dried tree. Sharpening a dagger with a stone. RASHED (SCAR) You need a looking glasses, Kaseb. KASEB Look, Scar, look, it didn’t even budge. Rashed: Throws the dagger at the Gazelle. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER The dagger hits the dead gazelle, and it falls. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER Muscular brother of Salamah, unsaddling a horse, drops the saddle at the same time the dagger hits the gazelle and it falls. RAFI (SWEET TOOTH) Because it went through it, you Camel... SALAMAH Sweet tooth. RAFI Yes, sir. SALAMAH Gather the wood. Camel. KASEB Yes, sir. SALAMAH Go get the prey...Scar. RASHED Yes, Salamah. SALAMAH Light the fire. KASEB C’mon, Rafi, let’s go...I thought he missed... FADE OUT. EXT. IRTEMAH’S HOUSE - NIGHT The only sound shatters the solitude of this deadly dark night, is the sound of Crickets CHIRPING and the fear breath sound, of a group of masked men, sneaking up and down, the sleeping neighborhood and Irtemah’s mud fenced house. CUT TO: INT. BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER Ghazi: Sound asleep. We see a snake tattoo on the back of his hand, when he slams it against Ghazi’s mouth. KHALED Shhhhhhhhh. Ghazi: Looks at the Masked man face, popped eyes. Terrified. Pokes a gun against his head. MASKED MAN (KHALED) Don’t make a move. CUT OUT EXT/INT. GARDEN - LATER Ghazi: Kneeling, hands bound behind his back. Holding a gun to the side of Ghazi’s head. KHALED This is your last chance, old man, your son’s fate is in your hands, what’d you say? Two masked men forcing him to kneel, near his wife and teenage daughter, who also held down by a pair of masked men. Resists. IRTEMAH I’m not the one to determine his fate. Looks up toward the sky. IRTEMAH (CONT’D) He does. KHALED And, I’ll decide it, if you don’t sign. Irtemah’s daughter, a young lady, held by a gunman, distraught. Looks at her father, and brother. Shouts. SALHA Pull your shoulders up and sit like a man. Ghazi: Scared. Pulls his shoulders up. Mother: Distraught, sad. KHALED What do you say, old man? IRTEMAH Do as you wish, dead man. AREF Old man, say yes, please, it’s just a land, say yes, he’ll do it, do you understand, please...I beg of you. (To Aref) Don’t do it, Khaled, don’t do it. IRTEMAH Man, is but one stance, you harm my tad, and I’ll make sure, everybody carries your filthy bloodline, is dead, everybody...that is, a promise. Pushes Khaled away. KHALED Move, Aref. Aref: Manages not to fall. CUT TO: EXT/INT. GARDEN - MOMENTS LATER Khaled: Shoves his gun to Ghazi’s head, looks at Irtemah. Ghazi: Looks at his father, terrified. Khaled: With his gun to the side of Ghazi’s head, shoots. MOTHER (O.C.) (Shouts) Oh my God... Ghazi: In a slow motion, his face falling to the ground, comes to an extreme close up, with blood stream running down his innocent face. Dies. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - NIGHT Awakens from his sleep, next to the dying fires. His inflamed, red eyes tell the rage. SALAMAH Ghazi?! CUT TO: EXT/INT. GARDEN - MOMENTS LATER Her face tells the horror of her child’s death. Her screams, shatters the deadly silent. Powerless as her knees gives-out. MOTHER My baby... Screams as she runs to her dead brother. SALHA Ghazi. CUT TO: EXT/INT. GARDEN - LATER Bewildered. IRTEMAH No strength but the might of Allah...Allah is my shepherd... Khaled: Distraught. Roughs him up. AREF You killed the little boy, Khaled...damn you, damn all of us, blood, blood, blood...we’re dead, dead...Migrate, all of you, migrate now, run for your lives, run as fast as you can... All runs away. Bewildered, to his son’s body. IRTEMAH No strength but the might of Allah, Allah is my shepherd... Mother: Lying on the floor with her hair stwern and her dress tared. Sobbing. SALHA (Holding his body) Ghazi, brother, my heart, my soul...I cry you, my heart bleeds for your departure... my baby brother, Ghazi... DISSOLVE TO: EXT. YARD - MOMENTS LATER Hums, as he dips his hands in Ghazi’s blood and smears it over his head and face. IRTEMAH Laid his eye to sleep, and dipped his hand in the Henna... (Cry) your blood, your blood my boy, henna to my head...we shall henna our feet with their blood... Grabs his head scarf and attempt to wraps it around his face. Jumps up, tries to grab the head scarf. SALHA No father, noooo.... IRTEMAH I shall never speak, until you’re avenged the worst revenge the Arab has ever known. Wraps the bottom half of his face including the mouth with his scarf. Rocking as she pulls her hair and dress, sobbing. Screams in a soundless heartfelt scream. Suddenly her scream RESOUNDS throughout the quiet place. SALHA Salamah. FADE TO BLACK: EXT. DESERT - DAWN Salamah: At a very high speed, riding his horse along with his three brothers. CUT OUT EXT. NEIBOGHERHOOD - LATER As sad MUSIC plays on, a group of saddened people, spot Salamah, as they gather in front of Irtemah’s house, start opening in two lanes. CUT TO: EXT. NEGHBORHOOD - MOMENTS LATER Salamah: His distinct horse steps, shatters the crowd’s deadly silence, as he rides slowly through the neighborhood, we see the marking on his horse’s chest (^) the tribe’s marking. FADE OUT. EXT/INT. HOUSE - LATER Noaf: Squeezes herself through the crowd, runs into the vacant hole in the middle of the crowd, extends her little arm to Salamah. FAST PAN EXT. NEGHBORHOOD - MOMENTS LATER Salamah: Gets off his horse, picks up his little brother’s hat from Noaff’s hand, and proceeds, as the crowd follow. DISSOLVE TO: INT. ROOM - MOMENTS LATER Salamah: Stops in front of a little coffin, laid at the center of seated elders. Irtemah: Seated in the middle of an elders gathering, his head scarf is wrapped around his face and mouth, sign of a self muting. Ghazi: As if he were asleep, his tiny body is wrapped in a white sheet, his head stained with blood. Salamah: The huge man kneels down, the earth shakes. DISSOLVE TO: EXT. CEMETERY - DAY As the sad MUSIC continues, while he’s Kneeling, kisses Ghazi’s eyes. SALAMAH So long, glorious eyes, so long. Along with his brothers, wearing black cloth bands wrapped around their right arms. Stands up and sprinkles a fistful of dirt on Ghazi’s face as he’s laid to rest. Somber. Ghazi: Innocent face partially covered with dirt, the sad MUSIC continues. FADE OUT. INT. LAWN - DAWN Salha: Her hair strewn. Wearing her black dress inside-out, distraught. Walks toward her brother Salamah, as he’s preparing his war gear. Salamah: Somber, his face is partially covered with his keffiyeh, putting on his bandolier, and sword, as his brothers are saddling the horses. Beats on his chest, crying, out of control. SALHA Where do you think you’re going? Go ahead, run, run you coward, run...afraid They’ll kill you too... Rashed: Face partially covered. Tries to remove her. SALHA (CONT’D) Kill them, kill them all, burn them, burn them down to the ground, you coward, kill them all...They killed my baby brother...they killed Ghazi... Salamah: Gestures to him to stop. SALHA (CONT’D) Awad of Beersheba, killed my baby...bring me his heart, do you hear me? Right here...Don’t come back without his heart...carve him, make his violent death an example to all Arabs...all Arabs... Salamah: Get on his horse, rides away. SALHA (CONT’D) I shall wear my dress inside out until you return. FADE TO BLACK: EXT. DESERT - DAWN A tumbleweed bounces across the unsettling sand of the windy desert. A Crow CAWS flying across the red skies, breaking the deadly dawn solitude. Suddenly. As the MUSIC of(Ashkeek Lemeen/Kathem Alsaher) starts. Salamah: A long with his brothers. Their faces wrapped in a black Kofeiahs, ride their horses at lightning speed. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT -DAWN A camel herder, sees them passing by, stops and shields his little son behind him, mumbles. The SOUND of their horses hoofs gets stronger as they approach the camera. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - LATER Devours miles in a blink of an eye. Suddenly as the MUSIC stops, they stop at a steep edge of a mountain. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER Quiet, sleepy Turkish military fortress, down the valley below. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER Salamah: Along with his brothers, insteep down the hill. CUT OUT EXT. FORTRESS - LATER Crickets CHIRPING, breaks the solitude of the sleepy camp. Soldier: Seated in a wooden shack, drowsing as he guards the main gate. CUT TO: EXT. DESERT - MOMENTS LATER Salamah: Charges to the fortress gate, along with his brothers, as the sun is barely rising at the horizon behind them. CUT TO: INT. SHACK - DAWN Soldier: The horses stamp, bounces his rifle against his leg and falls. He wakes up, notices the vibrating ground under his feet. Gets out of the shack and aims his rifle around. As he discover the SOUND source, he stops and aims his rifle. CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS FRONT - DAWN Salamah: We hear the sharp distinct SOUND of a dagger blade, soars through the quiet, peaceful space. FAST PAN TO EXT. FORTRES FRONT - MOMENTS LATER Soldier: Aiming his rifle toward Salamah. CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS FRONT - MOMENTS LATER The soaring SOUND ends with a THUD. With the dagger plunges his eye socket. His rifle falls, as he drops dead. CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS FRONT - MOMENTS LATER Salamah: Tilts over from his speeding horse, grabs the dagger, causing the Soldier’s dead body to drag, until he frees the dagger. Crashes the fortress gate open and rides toward the Lieutenant's quarters. The brothers, spread throughout the fortress. CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS - MOMENTS LATER Soldier: Leaving the out-house holding a water mug. His jaw drops, freezes. Drops the mug, as Salamah passes him. CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS - MOMENTS LATER Kaseb: Riding toward the soldier, aims his bow and let an arrow out. Soldier: The arrow pokes his open mouth, falls dead. Rides around him. KASEB One. CUT OUT EXT. FORTRESS -MOMENTS LATER Soldier: Half asleep, yawns, preparing to take over the watch post, walking along with a Corporal. Sees the intruders. Attempt to scream. CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS - MOMENTS LATER Rashed: Throws a dagger at the Soldier, the dagger lands in his throat. Soldier: dies. Corporal: Runs away as he watches the soldier dies. Rafi: Rides after the Corporal’s direction. CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS - MOMENTS LATER Corporal: Running away. Rafi: Chops his head off, with a sword. CUT OUT EXT/INT. SLEEPING QUARTER - EARLY MORNING Salamah: Crushes the door open, rides inside the room. CUT OUT INT. SLEEPING QUARTER - MOMENTS LATER BADRIAH: A woman, jumps out of the bed, pulling a blanket to cover her partially nude body, screams. Osman: Half naked, with the blanket pulled off his body. Frantically wakes up, and quickly reaches for his gun, placed on a stool next to his bed. Pulls out his gun and aims it at Osman, as he clocks the trigger. SALAMAH It’ll be the last time you ever reached for anything, Turk. Osman: Freezes. SALAMAH (CONT’D) You. Pass me the weapon. Badriah: Passes him the gun, returns to bed. CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS - LATER Soldier: Screams, holding his bloody hands, to an arrow inserted in his eye. Kaseb: Rides toward him, chops his head off, immediately after an arrow lands in the soldier’s mouth. Looks back. Holding a bow.. KASEB It still my count, Sweet-tooth, four. Looks at the headless body. RAFI Three and a half. CUT OUT EXT. FORTRESS -EARLY MORNING More than fifty soldiers storm out of their sleeping quarter. KASEB (O.C.) Scratch that, let’s start from the beginning... CUT TO: EXT. FORTRESS - MOMENTS LATER Jumps down from his horse, overlying the approaching soldiers, causing them to fall, counts as he stabs. KASEB (CONT'D) Let’s see, one, two, three... DISSOLVE TO: EXT. FORTRESS - LATER The brothers in a melee, kicking, hitting and killing. CUT OUT INT. SLEEPING QUARTER - LATER Badriah: Putting on her last piece of clothes. SALAMAH Go and tell your husband, he has something belongs to me. Badriah: Storms outside the room, hair strewn. SALAMAH (CONT’D) Lieutenant, Osman. OSMAN Listen man, I, I, I didn’t do it... SALAMAH Do what, Turk? OSMAN Listen bedouin, I’m a Turkish officer, do you have any idea what that mean?! We HEAR bullets being fired. OSMAN (CONT’D) Do you hear that? They’ll kill you... FORTRESS - MORNING Salamah: Along with his brothers soaked with blood, riding away from the inferno engulfing the fortress. FADE TO BLACK. INT. BEDROOM - MORNING Bullets falling on the floor, as his hands are trembling while trying to feed bullets into the rifle, squeezing his wife, Badriah closer to the corner. Terrified. AWAD Are you su..sure, it was, it was Salamah? BADRIAH Yes. AWAD Goddamnit...what? What did he say? He said he’s com...coming for me, right? He said that? For me? BADRIAH Yes, Awad... Raises his head up, as he charges into the room. SALAMAH Awad of Beersheba...Payday. CUT TO: INT. BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER Drops the rifle. Falls to his knees, crying.
